Nice Buns

I'm digging the high, messy bun trend I'm seeing all over the city and even on the models at the Fall 2010 Fendi show. The look could be described as soft romanticism. I'm no hairdresser but moms, here's a two step plan for creating your own cool, loose bun.

Step 1 - Put your hair in a high bun
Step 2 - Allow your baby to yank unmercifully at your hair as they are so apt at doing.

Voila mommies! You are now effortlessly chic and right on trend. If you want the bun to stay in place make sure your child's hands are sticky.

I look forward to trying this look and showing the world that as a mama, I know a thing or two about loose buns.

Elastic Pants Saved My Life

Being pregnant in a city where half the population wears yoga pants was to my advantage. I could wear my stretchy pants with my big belly hanging out and fit right in. After all wearing yoga pants in Vancouver has very little to do with whether or not you actually work out. Big belly + yoga pants = normal. Do I sound mean? Well, perhaps we DO need to rethink the combo. In addition, the fact that tights have been popular for so long gave me a wide range of fashion options while pregnant. Tights and big shirts, tights and big dresses, tights and big jackets (You get the picture). But seriously, I was very comfortable for someone carrying a human being inside of me. American Apparel was a one stop shop for me during those nine months.

Anyways, enough about elastic pants. I want to say something about elasticity. Being a mommy is the definition of this word. According to Wikipedia it is the continuum mechanics of bodies which deform reversibly under stress, or even better a comic book super power. Yes, my body was miraculously deformed and still recovering. However, it was worth it. God created our bodies to work in a way that results in something unbelievably awesome, LIFE. Now that's worth talking about.
